Girl Scouts of Central California South Celebrate Cookie Season Success

Plain and simple: Girl Scouts of Central California South Troops rocked their cookie sale this year!

“Our goal was one million boxes for our 100th Anniversary year, and our girls were very close to reaching that goal. They sold more than 987,000 boxes! We could not be more proud,” CEO Cathy Ferguson stated happily.

For six weeks, the girls were out in force, rain or shine.

The dedication paid off.

More than 80 Girl Scouts achieved their goal of selling 1,000+ boxes of cookies, and they are now part of the Super Sellers Secret Society Honors (S.S.S.S.H) club.

For the third year in a row, Kelsie Anne from Troop 638 in Porterville was the top cookie seller.

She sold a whopping 3,504 boxes!

Other top cookie sellers in the local Girl Scout council during the 2012 Cookie Sale were:

'X Factor' Finalist's Debut Single Hits Fresno Airwaves

"X Factor" finalist Chris Rene celebrated his debut single playing in Fresno Tuesday night.

Rene wowed "The X Factor" in the show's first season.

When he got on the show, he had just gotten out of rehab and told judges he was a trash collector.

Now he's touring the country promoting his new record.

On Tuesday, he met lots of adoring Central Valley fans who say they love hearing his song on the radio.

"Let me just show you the face of how it feels when you hear your song on the radio. It's like this...woo! That's it right there. No words can describe it. Being in front of people that you've always dreamed of being in front of like Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Paula. Being on the X Factor, the feeling of it is infinite. Basically infinite possibilities open up after you've gotten enough courage to go and do that. It feels like a dream. Straight up," Rene said.

New Law Protects California Kids!

New Law Protects California Kids!

This story comes to us from the Fresno County Department of Public Health -

The State of California has enacted new passenger safety legislation that aims to prevent unnecessary death and disability in children. Starting January 1, 2012, children
less than 8 years of age must be properly buckled into a car seat or booster seat in the back seat of a vehicle.

Previously, the law required that a child remain in a booster seat until 6 years of age or until attaining a weight of sixty pounds.

In California, unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and hospitalization among children under 16 years of age. Motor vehicle-related injuries are preventable; yet, motor vehicle collisions remain a leading cause of death and disability for children.
