Local Agency Provides New Homes For 20 Families

Local Agency Provides New Homes For 20 Families

20 families have a new state-of-the-art place to call home in Downtown Fresno.

Unfortunately, the agency that made it possible won't be around to help more families.

The Fresno Redevelopment Agency teamed up with Granville Homes to fill empty land with those homes. They're solar-powered, which means they come with low electric bills and are affordable to families living on smaller paychecks.

But Governor Jerry Brown's plan to tap redevelopment agency funding for state needs will make it harder for projects like this to happen in the future.

Important Reminders in Heating Your Home

Important Reminders in Heating Your Home

CAL FIRE is reminding us to check our home heating equipment now that the cold weather is here. CAL FIRE is dispatched to many home fires this time of year when the response could have been prevented by simple equipment maintenance procedures. Below is a list of heating problems that are often overlooked.

When was the last time your flue was cleaned?

Chimney sweep vendors in the area can be found on the internet and in the yellow pages of our local phone book under “chimney cleaning”.  Also flue brushes can be rented from local vendors for a minimal charge.  This is also a good time to inspect the firebox and flue for cracks and damage.

Inspect all home heating units for obstructions and operation.

Kids Revamp Garden at West Fresno Boys & Girls Club

Kids Revamp Garden at West Fresno Boys & Girls Club

Summer is a good time for children to get up, go outside and gain valuable experience and new skills outside the classroom. On Tuesday, some Fresno kids wasted no time doing just that.

Fresno Boys & Girls Club members took on a new challenge to give their garden a face lift at their Fresno facility. Community partners and local gardening taught the youngsters how to build and maintain a beautiful outdoor activity space of their own. Kids learned, firsthand, applicable skills and how to take ownership in the maintenance of their club.

Members of the Boys & Girls Club of West Fresno participated today in Debug The Myths, an educational program that helps young people understand the value of outdoor spaces and the importance of controlling pests. The program sponsored a beautification project for the club, which included planting new shrubs outside the facility.
