Fresno Woman is Oldest Valley Girl Scout | Community Spirit

Fresno, CA (November 30, 2011) - Girl Scouts of Central California South was looking for their oldest Girl Scout, and she has been found! 85 year-old Edith Skillen contacted the local Fresno Girl Scouts council. She recently went to the Fresno office to share her Girl Scouting stories from the 1930s and 1940s.
Edith as a Girl Scout during the depressionl. Her parents were not able to afford to send both her and her sister to the Girl Scout summer camp. Her parents worked the summer camps so she and her sister could attend. "...this was a big commitment for my folks, and a mighty good time for the two Murray sisters," Edith said, while talking about her parents working the camp. Edith has many fond memories from the summer camp. "The weather was hot, we slept in the open - no tents or buldings, and I had a wonderful time and was accepted by all, " Edith stated about her Girl Scouting days.
