Signs Of Recovery? New Businesses Open In Northwest Fresno

Texas Roadhouse is known for their line dancing and steaks, and it looks like Fresno was hungry for a taste of the Lone Star state - several hundred people came for opening night this week.

"Extremely surprised, pleasantly. A lot of people turned out, we served over 800 guests," said Matt Johnson, manager of Texas Roadhouse.

Even more people applied to work there.

Out of 4,000 applicants, 200 were hired.

Some economists say restaurant sales are good indicators of how our local economy is faring.

Texas Roadhouse, which opened on Shaw Avenue and Feland in northwest Fresno, joins a list of other national chain restaurants investing in Fresno.

In the same area, Grocery Outlet is moving into a vacant building, and next to it a Panera Bread restaurant is being built.

Orchard Supply Hardware recently opened its doors on the Figarden Loop.

Tax Day: Need Extra Time? File For An Extension

Tax Tips courtesy of IRS.gov

Even though the tax filing deadline is later than usual this year -- April 17 -- many taxpayers may still need more time to file their tax return. If you need extra time, you can get an automatic six-month extension of time to file from the IRS.

Here are seven important things you need to know about filing an extension:

1. File on time even if you can't pay

If you completed your return but you are unable to pay the full amount of tax due, do not request an extension. File your return on time and pay as much as you can. To pay the balance, apply online for a payment plan using the Online Payment Agreement application at www.irs.gov or send Form 9465, Installment Agreement Request, with your return.
